Tikka shooters- Mount the scope to the factory dovetail, or add a picatinny rail?

I don’t like the looks of a pic rail. I use Sportsmatch rings on mine. UM is a more expensive option. Leupold Backcountry rings is another great option. I use them on a different rifle brand.

I've used both UM and sportsmarch, and much prefer the UM. They feel more substantial but not with a meaningful weight difference. They are designed so that you can set the recoil pin in three spots to move it forward or back. The hardware on the UM also hold up better than the sportsmarch, I've stripped several bolt heads on multiple sets of sportsmarch. Plus with UM being made in the USA they are generally easier to get.

As long as you're using the recoil pin and have it seated correctly, no need for the added weight and contact points of a pic rail.

I just went theough this excercise on a tikka t3 in 300wm. Ive been playing musical chairs with scopes. I ended up going with talley pic rail and rings. I like the adjustability for eye relief that a pic rail provides. In my research i found someone makes a pic rail that slides into the tikka dove tail. I thought that was a great design. The rail cost more than the rings and rail i ended up buying so didnt buy.

Edit: i think this is the rail that slides into the dovetail.
