Sunshine state sprint

A couple of random unasked for facts:

This is supposed to be a depredation hunt. They get doe tags added out if the regular doe season for us to be able to kill.

That said usually on a four day hunt I always attempt to hold out for two bucks.

That said…. Usually day 1 I get itchy and shoot a doe. 😬

I’ve just got this weird disease….I just like shooting stuff.

Some of these “mature does” weigh more than the little scrub bucks.

I had a large group of does come in. They are so small down here that I forget how to judge their size. Fortunately for me when all of them got in top pin range, it was no doubt she was the “big one”.
She’s gutted and I cut down the quarters to the bone to let heat escape.
(The biologist need them to come out whole for weight and jawbone)

Now it’s buck time.

My buddy has seen a spike and scared two does off.

I have a funny video I will post later.
I basically snuck over to my deer to take pics and gut it. As I was setting it up for pics, a small spike came in exploring and was maybe 8 yards away from me. Had no idea what was going on……

Life is good in the woods

Congrats! Following this one for sure, I recently moved down to Fort Rucker so I’m definitely interested in this! Leaving the mountain west has been hard on my psyche.
It’s definitely a different beast.
Lots of giant clubs around you and down here.

I just couldn’t pay for that. Too much public and still deer to shoot.

If I were you I’d definitely check this place out sometime.

You missed the good weather by about a week. It got down in the teens last Saturday, but it was too wi dy to archery hunt

This is like a poor man's coues deer hunt. I like it. Except the snakes.
He's seriously got me thinking. Deer hunting in February, more then likely nice/nicer weather then home, I can use my Hawken. Hunt for a few days maybe throw a charter fishing trip in the middle for good measure.

They may as well be Florida coues

I had noticed that. I was hoping it was going to hole a little longer. It seems to be ok so far. It’s 68 degrees right now and I just had two doses walk by.

Just need these bucks to move.

It’s a unique experience that’s for sure.
I’ve met people who do it so their wife and kids can go play at the beach and shop, while the husband hunts.

Some years it’s a little colder, but it’s 60s right now so it would have been one of those good ideas for that plan.

I was trying to think about my personal data. I think in approx 8 years of living here, I saw maybe 3 snakes.

One black snake, one fake coral, and one rattler.

I’ll tell you what I saw way too many of down here….. black bears…

I did some sneaking through a creek and had some deer walk right around me at about 8 steps. It was a lot of fun.
Thermals and wind worked well.

I’m in a spot I found for the evening hunt. I really like it.

Already had two does in here.

I’m 22-23’ in the air looking at all of this.

Don’t worry, snakes can’t get me up here!
