Yeti GOBOX Collection

Summer vacation project

Thanks, I'm starting to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel and overall I am very happy with the result. There are some buggers that will bother me forever, but I try to remind myself this is our first effort at this and neither of us have ever done any real wood or fiberglass work before.

I'm sure there are some things that only you will notice just because you were involved in every step. Not many people can say that they have built a boat, kudos to both of you. Looks like a beauty.

Reminds me of my dad. He rebuilt an old Chris-Craft and has received a few awards for the restoration work. He still obsesses over the one dog hair only he can find that somehow got into the varnish.

Well construction is complete, everything left is cosmetic. We got the outwhales added and sealed to the inwhales. I spent 6 hours yesterday sanding the exterior and prepping it for paint. I still have to do the interior tonight after work and hopefully get started on actual painting.Hopefully this time next week it will be complete and we can get it in the water. If you ever want to attack one of these, plan on it taking 4 times as long as you planed and invest in plenty of sanding discs.

In the home stretch, paint will finish today, clear should be done by Tuesday. Let it cure for a couple days and we should be on the water a week from Saturday.

Well we did it. The clear coat is curing and we will be slapping together a small trailer this evening. These are some pics from the painting process. I let Layla pick the custom paint scheme and she did that all on her own while I was at work. We will have it out in the water this weekend, and then she goes back to her mom on Sunday. Couldn't be more proud of her work ethic and artistic talents. It has been a fun and frustrating project that took way more time and money than I expected, lol. I am looking forward to getting some use out of this thing so hopefully it floats!

She floats! Got the trailer done and spent a nice Saturday paddling around on Caballo lake. Layla had never been a canoe before so it took a little getting used to. It will float two people a puppy plus a cooler and some snacks. It also tracks fairly strait. We are pretty pleased with the outcome. Now its time to get back to scouting.
