Stacking Stones

Several perimeter works of interest. Some obvious some just raise more questions.

Hand dug/stacked rock well, collapsed at about 10' down, but it sits 50 yards away from and 20 feet above the creek... why do it?

A stone wall for no apparent reason. I guess they just needed some stacking practice.

I'm betting there are some graves somewhere close by, its pretty thick cover for looking.
There is a rock lined well on the farm next to mine. It is on top of a ridge. I believe these wells are cisterns. How can ground water get into a well on top of a ridge? I believe they brought water from the creek and filled these wells to have water near their houses. They dug wells 20" deep, chiseling through limestone, pulling dirt and rock out with a rope and bucket. Then they dropped field rock back into the well and lined it to stop dirt from collapsing. Do you think work ethic and effort has deteriorated over the last 100 years??? Most now would think that was an impossible task,
