With high water on the Columbia and too many chores I hadn't yet made it out salmon fishing, even though it's been a good run of sockeye this year. Got off to a good start on a solo run for the opening of Lake Wenatchee this morning, back for the rest of the weekend with the kids and my brother, hopefully we can fill the freezer. Lines down at 4:35, lost a fish around 5:30, landed first shortly after 6, limited by 7:30 after losing 2 more.

Came home to a dying well pump and a fire assignment near the area I drew an archery cow tag for this fall so spent the last week scrambling to keep things watered in 105 degree weather and make the 0600 briefings 2 hours from my house. Got my new pump installed Wednesday and finally catching up.

Fishing was awesome, first morning with a full boat we managed to net 9 and lost as many, kids thought they'd heard some fancy cuss words from dad in the past but Uncle Buck taught them how it's done. First salmon fishing trip for him and first time using downriggers, so a bit of learning curve, 4 people in a small 12' boat, guessing he provided some pretty good entertainment for the other boats with the steady stream of language to make a drunken sailor blush and loud comments every time we'd lose a fish like "OH YOU SOB, LOST ANOTHER ONE, I'M GONNA BEAT YOU WITH THE FN NET!" or "YOU'RE A DISGRACE TO THE FAMILY!". When a big one came off the hooks at the net and slowly drifted away he nearly fell in trying to get it in the net, cussing the whole time. By the end of the trip Uncle Buck's new nickname from the kids was Skunkle Butt.

Kids managed to catch a cold so they slept in the next morning and Uncle Buck and I got out about 530 and had 7 fish by 645, he didn’t bring enough beer so we headed to shore and my daughter and I went out and landed 2 more then my son lost 2.

Last morning was a little slow and everyone was burned out dealing with 100 degree weather and relentless mosquitoes, so we called it good with 6 fish for a total of 28 between us.

Didn't have much time for fish pics with the heat, but eating quality is great.

Deadhead from the fire in the area I have a cow tag, or I can kill a spike, most years I hunt this area I get teased by bulls nicer than this one that I can't shoot.
