When I was in high school I used to go to my buddy's family cabin on Lake Beauregard. I can't remember why now, but we always ended up in Solon Springs for a few hours each trip. Love being up north!

This Blizzard certainly didn’t affect everybody, but you’d have to be over 100 to remember anything like it where I live. It completely paralyzed our entire county.
I’m the Director of a Public Safety Department and sit on the Emergency Operation Center for Delta County.
The EOC was activated and coordinated several rescues due to the blizzard.
County plows cannot even move some of the snow in certain areas of the county. We still have roads that are not accessible and people have been stuck inside for days. I currently have a couple employees that can’t get to work because their roads are inaccessible.
We had to use snowmobiles, which also had a hard time, to get to elderly without power so we could relocate them….ongoing.
The Governor has issued a State of Emergency for Delta county, so hopefully we get extra resources.
Not complaining at all and I have to say I’m glad I’m around to witness this….lots of teamwork and resiliency.

Sorry, I do not. I have only had hunting land up there for a little over a year and don’t get up there as much as I would like.

And yes, I did walk a mile to or from school some days. In tennis shoes. Saved the boots for street hockey.

In the UP, Big Snow is a whole 'nother thing. We did have 150" back in 2022-23, but the UP is in a class by itself

Yeah, me too, but barefoot cuz shoe leather does not grow back like the soles of your feet.
In case some folks missed this story. The amount of grace and patience that first responders show to some of the people who "just gotta send it" make me appreciate their sacrifice and obligation to duty even more.
We didn't see a county plow from Thursday until yesterday. God bless those folks. They're rock stars. Pizza for dinner tonight to help make sure the little local spot close to the house keeps making money. Dogs got to walk down the road without their leashes.
I wonder if our more wistful friends (ahem, brent, et al) have their memories clouded by 70" blowers and boots that are insulated. I'd rather weather a blizzard with 2026 tech than 1978 tech.

I was helping clear out my neighbor who’s 76. We were talking about the storm of ‘78, which I don’t remember. He said that was a one-day storm and this recent one is much worse.
My buddy owns an excavation business and has been hired to help move snow off the roads. He said he’s been in his loader for 14 hours, “stopping once so far to take a chit”…..I’m glad he has his priorities straight
I have 20 Volunteer Firefighters that supplement us full-timers and you’re right….god bless those guys/gals.

For sure I like some modern amenities. You just can't beat modern boots. But that said you're listening to blizzards are nothing like yesteryear's blizzards.

What I remember of the '78 blizzard in east lansing, was that people that had cars parked at the dorms could not find their cars. They were buried over the roof. I recently heard that for all the cold they had this year in Duluth, they had one third of the number of days below zero in January that they would get in a normal year, thirty plus years ago.
The winds seem a lot higher now, and I have read that also. There are predictions for bigger and stronger storms with climate change.
My buddy tells me that Nebraska will be in the eighties.In a day or three. That is just sick.
