SLC/Heber City Area Grouse

I’m going to visit my sister and her family in Park City Utah next week for Christmas from here in NW Colorado. Our grouse season is closed here in CO as of late Nov. but Utah’s grouse season is open until end of Dec. I tried a couple spots in the Wasatch NF and Uinta NF last Christmas when I was out there with no luck. Gonna make sure I have snowshoes this time as the snow last year was deep enough to require it. Any tips or pointers on where to find either kind of grouse within an hour or so of Park City would be appreciated.

They can be about anywhere around there. I used to jump them a lot when hiking and hunting the Henefer WMA. Just be aware that many of the WMA’s in UT close Jan 1.

8 miles today. 2500 vertical feet gained. No grouse or chukars seen or harmed. Merry Christmas from Utah! The model 12 gets around!

So true. And not much better with ducks. Or shooter deer this fall.

When you hunt alone a lot, and don’t kill much, there’s not much to photograph but your own ugly mug.
