So tying salmon trolling flies for Christmas gifts. Some pretty cool ones. I like to run teasers on all flies, we noticed bigger fish catches on them. The big head is slider that also rattles. All are either glow squid heads or UV glow. Bodies incorporate glow along with snap small glow stick. One of the flies are lit with black light. I use Polar Flash and other materials which flow better in water thus more action.

So to show how the glow stick works. It also charges up the glow materials. These glow sticks last about 12 hours so good night fishing trolling. Or really deep trolling they can help a lot. IMG_1202.jpegIMG_1203.jpeg

Further explanation needed...the glow stick illuminates the fibers, right?
Or the fibers themselves glow, or both?
Trying to visualize how to incorporate.

The fibers are glow material that hold glow from a black light. Long time ago I ran glow sticks in squids and decided about 10yrs ago to run in flies. Turned out great. The fibers absorb the glow stick increasing the total body of fly in night trolls. Add in glow fly head and glow beads, you can really get some nice total glow. The killer part is you don't have to bring up off rigger since the sticks last about 10hrs.

One more hack, the Scarpace meat plugs that look like J plugs have slot for meat. I just put glow stock in tygon and press it into slot. Now you have a glow plug.

The glow material can be adjusted so it is two lines versus wide body.

Where is a good online source to shop?

I am not commercial. I just realized posting up my Christmas gifts resulted in oops. I have sold small quantity to charters because one of them is a friend and gave him some as Christmas gift. Then they caught fish. They are bit more costly because of the materials costs are high. Let me think about this, I am retired and not sure what I want to do.

Give me couple days to think about this. I have another major project in progress that hopefully I can announce here mid summer. All I can say on that is it's cool as hell. How about that for a cliff hanger?

Actually, I'm just looking for a material source to tie my own flies.
Though my BIL runs a big boat off of Washington for salmon.
Im thinking fly fishing, big flies, big fish...no boats involved.

This is my main source. Some great materials that translate well for streamers. Yes, I fly fish. Smallies are suckers for this stuff.
Polarflash is great stuff.

Interested in the glow stick trick too for night fishing browns. Is there a special glow stick you are using? I bet I can figure out a way to incorporate it into a trout fly.
The glow sticks are off Amazon (of course!) and you can find any size you want. I bought double tygon tubing so one side slides and other holds the glow stick. The double tubing came off McMaster Carr.

I made my own jigs and spinners for the rivers I guided on but quickly realized I lacked the talent to tie good flies. Alaska fly fishing goods made a hero out of me. They have a lot of well researched flies, lot a material and though it didn’t help me, on line tutorial on how to tie some of their most popular. Loved their Dolly LLamas. They will have a good selection for you to peruse.
Couple of my favorites swinging for silvers or kings.
Regardless and to get back on track I’d love to take some of R.M.Bs trolling flies to Sitka this next summer.
