Rough year this fall.

I've been out quite a few times this fall in pursuit of lions and bobcats.

Mainly hitting one area, a small mountain, with a lot of little draws and rock piles, water to the south and north, a ridge with some mahogany and PJ to the west and south.

Deer, antelope and small game.

December first, dogs trailed, but no real clear direction.

On the 5th, they couldn't get anything going at all.

Today, two main dogs trailed around, were moving good in the taller brush, but stalled in the grass and rocks. About 3 miles total for those 2.

Hope some snow comes, it will certainly make chasing cats easier

It looks like really tough tracking conditions. One good 3-6 inch snow and those dogs will tree one.

Great looking dogs. Any of them Walker x’s? Have a mostly walker cross. No real training but have had him on some lion tracks close to the house.

The red one is actually mostly walker with leopard. The other is shirt fat one is mostly walker. Both are old, and I know if they bark, its on a cat, and nothing else.

The other 2 blueticks are brothers. English mostly.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but when there is no snow do the dogs just roam around and find the scent trail vs snow tracking you can actually put them on a track?

Yup. I just cast them off and walk up into likely looking areas.

Let them make their own way.

A lot of roads in this country, so I go back to my Toyota and work to just keep ahead of them.

They’re not old, they’re experienced

Nice to see the old dogs on the trail. Just lost our old (bird) dog this fall. Hard to watch the spirit desire the hunt but the body unable to do it. Nice looking dogs all around. Hope they get some better conditions for success soon.

My old Toyota last winter.

I bought it for $300 (hundred) a few years ago. Have about 2500 into it now. Its my side by side.

I have a little wooden dog box in the back that will hold 3 easy, 4 in a pinch. One usually rides shotgun.

I hunt close to the house. Cheap to operate.
