For those of you who fly on your hunting trips, are you typically charged oversized fees for your rifle cases? Southwest's max size is a cumulative 62" (w+l+h). My double rifle case is 73", and my single is 66".

I know they make exceptions for certain sports equipment, such as golf bags, but can't figure out if that applies here.

I have a Pelican 1750 gun case and have never been charged, while flying with Southwest.

Haven't been charged extra yet. Gun cases are usually under "specialty luggage" on the airline websites. Similar to golf bags and stuff.

I flown numerous times with several airlines never been charged. Like someone said pretty sure it's under sporting speciality items.

My case is about 10" oversized, and I've not been charged. But only flew with it twice; 2009 with Delta, and last week with Alaska.
