You know it's going to be interesting when they show up like this:

We're fitting and finishing some new wood on this project.

The buttstock was already below the metal on the back of the receiver. I was able to grind some material off the tip of the wrist and get a little better fit. It's still not perfect but like I've heard so many times before, there's just not enough wood!

Next up is to fit the forend. I was given the option of either using the original or fitting new. I didn't think I'd be able to get the old and new to decently match up.

1st step is to fit the barrel channel. This did concern me a little, as the rough inletting on the piece was as crooked as a politician.

Once the mounting base is bottomed out then it's time to fit the receiver end. Luckily this is a takedown and they're easy to handle. Here you see how canted the rough inlet was. Good thing there's enough material to fix it.

Up next will be final shaping followed by finish coats.

Tuned up the forend, defined the shnabel tip.

The grip cap area and comb were rounded over pretty badly, a little bit of file work took care of it. Same goes for the cartridge window in the stock.

I've got a small amount of finish sanding on the butt, and I need to add the screw escutcheons on the forend.

Hopefully start laying oil on it today.

She's done! Kind of. I'm going to pull it back apart and try to polish the bolt better, it's bugging me. I *might* time the forend screws.
It's also got a hiccup here and there cycling ammo. Nothing major but I don't think it'll take much to fix. To be expected for replacing pretty much the whole magazine assembly. 20231126_205358.jpg20231126_205413.jpg20231126_205452.jpg20231126_205545.jpg20231126_210142.jpg20231126_205345.jpg
