Red brass

I found some brass at the range the other day and I'm not sure what it is. The brass has a reddish color. The headstamp is hard to read but looks like 188. Looks like it might be 7.62x54r? It just looked cool so I picked it up.

Looks like it might be lacquered common with older military ammo.

Red case= copper washed steel
Green case= lacquered steel.

You are correct on it being 7.62x54R
