Pre '64 winchester

What one would you pick, my dad is handing 1 down to me and I have the choice. He did hunt with the 30-30 and took a bear and a couple deer but never hunted woth the 32 special.

Both are in very good shape, the only thing I can find on either is both have a couple small spots of rust on the finger guards.

The 30-30 is a 1943-1947 model 94 and has a side mounted sears scope.

The 32 special is a 1951

Don't care so much about the value, just wanting to know which one you'd pick and why.

The 32 Special because it doesn't have extra holes drilled in the action. Given a choice I would always pick the undrilled one. Also, everyone has a 30-30.
That is if they both shoot decent. If one just doesn't shoot well, and I wanted to use it, I would pick the other one.

If your dad packed that 30-30 and hunted with it that would be my choice, honestly they are both beautiful rifles.

I have my Dads Win 94 a pre 64 30-30 in excellent condition. My first deer rifle also. It will be passed down to my sons.

I'm sentimental, given a similar choice I chose guns my father used and I remembered hunting with over pricier options.

I'm right there with you guys, I'm going pick the 30-30. I'd really like to take it along this year to Nebraska when he is with me and try to get a deer down.

Don't let the holes in the receiver discourage you. If you decide to refinish the metal, they can be filled. I inherited a model 94 with holes in the receiver. They cleaned up nicely.

I agree with the others that say the one that rwill remind you the most of your dad. If your plan is to sell them the unscoped one will be easier to move along

The 30-30 HAS value, memories of your Dad and money cannot buy that. Also it is more accurate with a 1-12 twist compared to the 32 with a 1-16 which had trouble stabilizing heavier bullets.

ps....The 94 is the first one I have seen with a scope mounted on the right side, your Dad must have been left handed?

Nope he is right handed, I tried it out just shouldering it and it doesn't feel too uncomfortable.

I’d pick the one that I would actually use. While I might be more careful with it than with other firearms, I’d prefer to use it as a keepsake rather than look at it as a keepsake.
