Looking for a place to go bust some geese/ducks in Jan. I live in va, and was hoping to try a new place where I could do a lot of shooting. I've heard Arkansas and Saskatchewan are goin but not sure? Anyone have any good suggestions? Just want a lil change of scenery.

January might be a little bit late for Saskatchewan.... You'll have to be down south somewhere that has open water. Plus most of the seasons up in the northern states are closed by then. Sorry I don't have more info.

The Texas coast for Redheads and Sprig is a hunt that would be good that time of year. Maybe some snow geese also in the same area. Just a thought, I know I want to do this hunt.

I bought a whitewater raft so I could float the rivers in VA for waterfowl during the winter. I think it's a lot of fun, though it's not always constant action with the birds, really weather dependent. Maybe something to consider?

We float the James, New, Staunton, and Shenandoah. Any of the big rivers. The Potomac or Susquehanna would be good too, but you would have to brush up on the out of state regs. Those rivers are public and navigable and legal to hunt. If you do it when it's warm you can fish too. It's legal as long as the boat isn't being propelled by a motor.

JAN? C'mon over to ARK!
NC boy got his first mallard (dang triple curl), first Sprig (totally full colors with great sprig) and first green wing (total awesome brilliant colors) with us last year on a two day hunt---I just help with cost and hunt the lease there with a 15-20 year hunting bud. He does take some day hunters. See my signature line for email addy

Really depending on the weather but in Kansas once the big water freezes leaving the rivers as the only water source around you can get alot of action in short period of time. We just scout the afternoon and hunt the morning. Most days they are pouring into those spots and its a quick hunt as long as everyone can shoot.

Side note depending on where you were going alot of rivers in kansas have very low water levels that time of year and without a mud motor you will not get to where you need to be without doing alot of damage to your outboard.
