My sister has some old rifles that she wants to sell. She asked me if they were worth anything, and I have no idea. How would I find out what these guns even are? I'll post a couple of photos of one.

Photo ending in 657 is a sporterized Mosin Nagant. I was at a firearms auction today where one sold for $275, which is actually more than I was willing to pay. Mosins are old Russian rifles used in both world wars, and when they’re chopped like that one, the military surplus collectors don’t like them.

Photo ending 923 is a Lee Enfield No. 4 Mark 1/2 that looks like it was rearsenaled as a Mark 3. I can’t tell if that one is sporterized too. If it’s in original condition someone might pay around $600 for it; if it was chopped like the Mosin it’s more of a $350-400 gun.

I happen to like hunting with old guns like this, but these days people either want pristine collectibles or modern plastic rifles in trendy calibers.
