I spoke to a friend of mine today who is a game ranger in the North West Territories. Being that we are both in Law Enforcement we compare notes sometimes. Though we deal with different clientel, both jobs have their similarities and their ups and downs. Last month (June) was particularly sad for him, he had to track down a black bear that killed and partially consummed a teen age boy.
The bears in his area are comparativley small, spring weight for an adult is under 175 pounds.
Apparently a group of teens were out camping and the bear attacked two of them when they came out of the tent they were storing their food in. They ran from the bear and one boy slipped and fell. The bear got him.
Never let your guard down in bear country.
