Public invited to NW Region Sportsmen's Roundtable meeting in Rifle

RIFLE, Colo. - In a continuing effort to provide hunters and anglers with opportunities to comment about a variety of wildlife management concerns, Colorado Parks and Wildlife formed the Sportsmen's Roundtable in 2012. The roundtable consists of elected and appointed delegates from each of the state's four wildlife management regions. They meet regularly at the regional level to collect input from constituents. The input is then presented to Colorado Parks and Wildlife's leadership at the statewide Sportsmen's Roundtable meetings, held twice each year.

The next Northwest Region Sportsmen's Roundtable caucus will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 13 at the Garfield County Fairgrounds, 1001 Railroad Avenue in Rifle. The meeting will take place at the south side of the indoor arena.

"We are offering our constituents an effective and direct way to express their thoughts," said elected delegate Kenny Marcella of Grand Junction. "They can let us know what they think about a variety of issues including licenses, hunting and fishing or any other concern and we will bring it up to CPW leadership."

In addition to voicing their opinions at regional meetings, members of the public can contact their local representatives directly at any time.

"It's important for the public to let Colorado Parks and Wildlife know what they would like to see in terms of wildlife management, especially in the early phases of the decision-making process," said Area Wildlife Manager JT Romatzke of Grand Junction. "It's helpful when the public can give input directly to us and we encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity."

Regional Sportsmen’s Caucus meetings are open to participation by any hunter or angler who has an interest in the region. The meetings can include any number of participants; no active hunter or angler will be excluded from the discussion.
