Southern NM shameless information request

I have been hunting mainly two places. M/T/W/Th I hunted at this location and actually missed this buck on Tuesday. I went to a different place yesterday and decided I wasn’t going to leave the only buck I’d seen again. This AM I got out to the gate before sunrise and decided to hike in directly up the ridge (different path than every other time) I crested the ridge just as the sun hit the hillside and I grabbed the 15s and did a quick scan with my shaky heavy breathing arms and I could see a deer glowing. I couldn’t see it well enough to see what it was but decided to treat it like a buck. Dropped my pack and had to crawl another 50 yards to get to a place I could get prone. Got the scope dialed and got on him and steady and put one right in the boiler room. He ran down about 10 yards and I sent another down. This one just dropped him. If I had someone with me that would that would be the end of the story but I took like 30 minutes to mark everything I could on the mountain so I could find him when everything looked different once I made it up there. That pre-work paid off and I found him pretty quickly. Got a couple pics, worked him up and headed out. Had a celebratory beer at 10:37 at the car!! This hunt was hard in a lot of ways. Wasn’t a deep backcountry hunt mainly hiking in 1.5-2 miles. All DIY public land. Keeping the glass to your eyes after not seeing anything for hours/days is a different kind of challenge than I’m used to. Recommend taking friends when going to try to glass up a coues.

I couldn’t get enough apparently so I went back this AM to see if there might be a big Tom on the carcass or at the very least a coyote. Sadly only birds but was still glad to be back in that beautiful place to watch the sun wake up!
