NM Unit 16E

I drew a bull elk tag for a gun hunt in unit 16E. I have hunted in other units in 16 but never this one. This unit is really large. Anyone hunted there before and have any info on where to start? Which side of theunit is best? Best places to camp? Looks like lots of roads through private land but not sure if they lead to public access or whether they have locked gates. I don't mind walking a few miles to hunt. I live 16 hours away so a scouting trip is not possible. Thanks for any help.

I have hunted it. Without private access you are looking at either the Lueras or the Pelonas. Both can be tough country. Most the roads on the north are gated and no access is allowed. Backpack hunting is your best option. Very dry this year, so water will be more critical than ever.
