Welcome, from the sierras in D5. May see you in my backyard. The hunting is not easy in the 33,000 tag zones, there are bucks, and just as many bears. Now wolves too. Plenty of mtn lions.

Welcome. I lived in grew up in Madera County and lived in Santa Cruz County before we bailed out in the early 1990's. I used to chase pigs and blacktails a lot in your country.

Get an Onx or GoHunt subscription and start looking for those harder to reach public spots near private. Panoche/New Idria, Panoche Hills BLM, Pozo, Ventana Wilderness. Fort Hunter Liggett was good to me also. Lots of goods spots still. I always found good luck on the Los Padres if I was willing go go deeper than everyone else.

I've toyed with going back for a backpack hunt in Ventana or Panoche Hills.
