Need a Mechanics Help!

I could really use some help. The 2002 Chev Avalanche that I just bought does not have working 4x4. Code said transfer case shift motor. I got a part from the yard (on a budget) and pulled the old motor but the new one wont line up right. The shifter part is just a little off and wont stay. The truck was working in 2 Hi if that helps. We put a wrench on the shifter and found 4 positions but none of them seem to be N. Buttons also dont have a N position. Auto, 2 Hi, 4 Hi and 4 Lo. The switch position that closest matches then transfer case shift motor is just beyond the first setting but wont stay there. What to do?

They are notorious for the shift motor going out but did you check voltage going to the motor? I'm not sure what you are asking can you explain further or add some pics?

Buy a ford
