No cute kids or pretty women here but I got my first public land buck. I've killed bigger bucks but I'm proud of this one. Just a small basket-rack 8-point that was following 6 does. The Tikka T3 in 30-06 came through for me with a perfect heart shot at 250 yds (My longest kill to date) across a pretty deep ravine. Had to walk 2 miles back to camp for the deer cart and another 4-mile round trip to get the deer and bring it back but had a couple first-time-hunter friends to help carry (drag) the load. (One was hunting a different spot and the other wasn't comfortable with a shot that long so I got the honors) We had a great time and made some memories. Unfortunately neither of the other two got a shot at anything but that's hunting. Killed mine on Thursday afternoon and was hunting the same spot with the other guy Saturday afternoon and had one guy walk by, look at us and sit down 30 yards to our right. Another guy walked up and saw us and sat down 30 yards to the left. We finally got up and moved and saw yet another hunter another 50 yds or so down the ridge. I've hunted that spot 3-4 years in a row and never saw another hunter on it.
Almost got a doe with my bow Saturday morning (this particular WMA is antlered deer only with a rifle) but she didn't quite cooperate with me and I didn't get a shot. Saw 8 of them and had four of them walk by me at 15 yards.
Here are a couple pics from the trip.
