My Bear Video

Greenhorn, You'll have to really change some hunting habits to get any animal whole in your truck. I can't see it happening. You like those long steep packouts.:D

Lawnboy.. check it out... my truck - 370 P&Y archery bull. Of course the private property did have a bit to do with it.. not my bull, the hunter paid nearly 20grand when it was all said and done to have the opportunity.. as you know, it does make a difference.

Alright you got me on that one. I thought you might be going soft on me. I do love the chance to go hunt on "the ranch" though. You can't beat loading them either on a 4 wheeler or right in the back of the truck. $20k for a 370 bull:eek:

Not to get too nosey guys......but who and where do people pay $20k for a 370 bull? Is this common for a trophy elk hunt? I just can't believe it.......

Rich guys, here in MT. Once the hunt price, outfitter sponsored license, tips, meat processing/taxidermy, and misc expenses for the hunt are added up, easily OVER 20 grand. And there's a waiting list to get to hunt there.. believe it because it's reality.

I always figured a good guided elk hunt would run about $5k. Then I guess you have to tip them whatever people tip for something like that. A mount probably around $600 and airfair about the same, I can't see someone paying more than $8k for a complete guided elk hunt. That's including sponsored tags. I guess I'm living in the past.

Thats pretty reasonable for a good guided hunt, if this is one of the ranch's I think it is though, its a lot better than just a good hunt.

Kurt...I think that should be your new challenge! To kill a big critter and get it in the truck whole!!!

Indeed...two great bears and great footage!

So what is a great guided elk hunt....really? Going after trophy class bulls (350" or better) or hunting 300" bulls but staying in a luxury lodge? Sorry to get off the topic of the bears, but I've never known anybody that's been on a guided elk hunt and it just grabbed my attention.

A great one?? I haven't been and probably never will be on one... But IF I had lots of money and wanted to go on a great elk hunt...guided... it would probably involve either Wyoming wilderness or San Carlos Apache res or one of the ranches like Kurt described.... Wyo Wilderness would be preferred though.

I'd want to hear lots of bugling... I want to see Lots of elk everyday (I mean..I do this unguided..so if I'm paying big bucks..I sure hope its better than my free hunts:hump: )

I'd definitely want a good chance at a 340+ bull....

Bottom line... a guided elk hunt would be wierd... Kinda like my wife wants to go down to Cody and go on this stupid Chuck Wagon dinner ride deal with the kids and such... I'm thinking, 'these guys are used to catering to families from FL and NY that think this is some crazy wilderness camping experience"... Lame.... But I'll prolly go.... sacrifice and compromise! :0)

I think I agree with you. If I were to ever fork over the cash for something I do for free, I would want to see & hear lots of big bulls in a fairchase setting. But that's a dream and I understand that. It is hunting and I'm not sure anyone can guarantee that. If I were to pay $20k for a hunt, I probably wouldn't ever leave the lodge. Does Hue Heffner have deer to shoot on his estate anyway?
