My 2026 Iowa season

Just a couple fishing trips with dad.



A few solo fishing trips but will say it's been a very slow year. A couple on the cleaning table.

A few hiking trips with the boots and pack getting ready for elk season.



Plenty of yellow oyster mushrooms around.



Found this funky looking thing but left it alone. Did not have my mushroom identification guide with me.







Also found a deerstand left from last year, along with a ground blind.



Plenty of wild raspberries to be had.

New sights put on hoping to shoot tomorrow.

Did a little shooting today. After about 50 bucks worth of bullets and powder I realized that I was moving my sights the wrong way. So after feeling like a dumb ass I cleaned the muzzy and took my wife out for supper.

I have done that before with a slug gun, can really humble oneself.

In preparation of hunting season I have decided to run a 5k. I HATE RUNNING, but I'm giving it a go in the name of elk. So I started couch to 5k 4 weeks ago and seems to be moving along well. The run is Labor Day weekend so just enough time to get ready.

T minus 20 days to muzzleloader elk. Shot a bit today, happy with the results. Trip to scheels for more supplies.

It’s coming up fast! I hiked over by your cabin a couple times last week. I’ll probably hit them a couple times this week with the pack!

Im still doing the couch to 5k. Start week 7 tomorrow, running a 5k in lacrosse labor day weekend. Be a first for me.

Made it out fishing the big river yesterday, one dam sheephead is all. It's been off all season it seems.

It’s low. Below 6’ in Harper’s. I haven’t talked to anyone that is catching fish.

I messed around with some different bullets at the range wich I wasn't happy with so back to the original bullets. My son did some scouting and found sign but didn't see any animals. He will be back out next weekend helping his buddy on an archery hunt in our area.
