I got to the trailhead at about 7 30, did about 4 miles and this is what I got back to in the truck.

9 days in the driftless region. Got the boat ready for morning as long as it's not raining. Just had jalapeño cheddar brats and sweet corn for supper.
Plan for the week is to fish, bike, and do some hiking getting ready for elk season. Possibly get some trout fishing in there also. Brought some lumber for a new fish cleaning table.

Out of bed at 4 45 and it's raining. That's OK, coffee and relaxation for the morning.

There were some big booms of thunder about that time. Looks like it’ll be past here shortly. I’m going to head out for a hike soon.

Was on the river yesterday and saw a big change . It was crowded. After having it nearly to myself lately with the higher water, folks were anxious to get out before the predicted rain.

Dad went up by desoto and out to big lake. Lost 2 fish and landed one sheephead.

I decided to try trout fishing after the rain. Just tried two holes with no fish. Blazing a trail through the high Iowa weeds i managed to get itch weed all over my left arm. After fishing the second hole I headed back to wash it off with soap and hot water. After that I did get the fish cleaning table built then jalapeño brats and Mac n cheese for supper. Life is good.

I always joke with people when they are at the boat ramp we have a policy they have to bring half of their fillets to the center. Keep that in mind next time you launch.

Fishing this morning I got a short small mouth, short sauger, and a catfish. All went back in the river. Dad got a short sauger, a keeper sauger, and one catfish that he kept.
After a midday nap I put 4 miles on the boots and took the wife for a ride up through the state forest.
Life is good.

Up at 5 this morning and get a text from dad that he's going back to bed. OK was planning on fishing with him but plans changed. Off to the trout stream i go. Since the weekend crowd was gone the trout were on fire. A limit in about a half hour.
After that I thought how about a hike. A quick 2.66 mile loop on the boots.
Then I took the wife to town for a few errands and a pizza for lunch.
Life is good.

Found the bluegills in the brush piles this morning. A limit north of the border.

4 miles on the boots this morning. Had to go to the laundry mat so the wife bought lunch. Had mushroom Swiss burger and fried cheese curds. Then took the wife and dog for a ride out in the country.

On the water this morning with dad but in separate boats. Between my dog and his dog are way to much to handle in the same boat. Between the two of us six walleyes landed but only one was a keeper, alsomany small bluegills but only three keepers. Put a few miles on the bike this evening, I think the bike is a better workout than hiking.

Shot the muzzy with open sights today. Just put em on so set target at 50 yards. Off a little so started adjusting a bit and eight shots later ended with the sight back where I started but bullet was right where it needed to be. Not the first time I ended up chasing my own tail. Out of bullets so just ordered more, then will shoot out to 100.
Beautiful evening so we did grilled backstrap with fresh sweet corn, and cheese slices.

Sounds like a standard day at the range with a muzzleloader
. I need to pull the muzzleloaders out and do some shooting myself.
