The stains I have on the skull are from the dirt and mud from the ground. I've been scrubbing it with bleach and it still isn't getting rid of it. Thinking about painting it?? any thoughts on that?

Yes it does, but I wonder if I coat it afterwards with a protectant if that will preserve it.

As said in previous post, don't use bleach. I would simmer (don't boil and don't do this in the kitchen - trust me) in hydrogen peroxide and water to cover for an hour then let it sit in the solution for a day or so in the dark. Remove and rinse and it should be good. It the skull is really dirty you might want to simmer in a mixture of dawn and borax first. Good luck!
