MT waterfowl

I'm seeing more ducks in the Gallatin Valley. And I got a couple of golden eyes the one day I hunted this past week. A few dozen swans are using local lakes. I think birds are moving. It just started snowing here in Bozeman and should move birds.

There was a migration last night in front of the storm we got. Heard plenty of birds flying over my house for a few hours. This cold and snow should really make the duck hunting pick up.

Ducks?

I've been seeing a ton of geese the past 2 weekends!

Yes ducks are on the move. I took a video while scouting on Friday of some swarms of ducks hitting a pea field. I still haven't been able to hunt due to my achilles tendon tear but watching it snow right now, I am itching to get out into the field.

Look to the east a little ways and you will find ducks.

Roger that. I drove thru on 2 the other day about an hour before dark. There were lots of duck tornadoes on the west edge of the rez. You guys are pretty loaded up right now. Hoping my spots down here look as good in a week or so.

Righto, I guess I might have to try chasing ducks this weekend if I don't go after a cow in the breaks.

I went jump shooting yesterday morning with a young friend. We have lots of Fed. waterfowl production areas and state land to hunt locally. In the morning it was astonishing to see the great number ducks flocks flying into this area. It has been some time since I have experienced this many flight birds coming into NW MT. We ended the day with 8 greenheads, no Susies, 3 teal and 3 roosters. I believe these are all northern birds as their legs were crimson red and very large mallards. Having duck sweet and sour over rice tonight. MTG

What's the recipe...

Yesterday was a slaughter. 16 geese and 23 mallards in just a few hours in the morning. Lots of northern birds moved down ahead of the front. Temp has dropped 20 degrees today and should drop another 25 to 30 degrees. Supposed to see -30 to -40 windchills. birds will be moving south for sure especially if our grain fields get covered with snow.
