Range and pasture conditions throughout the state are so dry that even next year’s outlook is threatened, says this week’s report from the Montana Agricultural Statistics Service.
The report says conditions on 33 percent of rangeland are “very poor,” far worse than last year’s rating and the five-year average.
Lack of feed also may force early supplemental feeding to get cattle ready for market, the report noted. The reporting service said topsoil moisture is 77 percent “very short” statewide.
