Montana mule 652

I hunted it in 2018. Saw good numbers of deer but the biggest buck I could turn up was 150’s. Everyone I’ve talked to since then has said numbers of deer and buck size have gone down a lot. It’s fun country to hunt but really hard to find good deer.

Kind of late but this is what we came up with. Pretty disappointed but drawing this tag was an itch I had to scratch. Passed up a huge 3 pt on first day that would have scored better than what I got. Had fun tho. View attachment 328732
I drew the tag this year, love the breaks and didn’t feel like chasing single digit draw odds for other tags. Seen some decent bucks this weekend. Wondering if you have any more input on where the deer were in November. Buried in the breaks or closer to private or anything?

Last Saturday I was driving south on highway 24, and saw an absolute gagger buck cross the road right in front of me right at dawn. Biggest buck I've seen in that unit in the past 20 years. I've spent a lot of time in the unit and know it well. I know what a big buck is too....
1/4 mile south of where I'd just seen the buck, two guys were parked in the borrow pit getting ready to start hiking. I stopped and told them about the buck, but they didn't have a 652 permit, and were hunting the east side of the road.

I drew the permit back in 1994 when the unit had age class bucks. Too bad it's not that way now, it's a really neat place to hunt.

Even when the unit had 50 tags seems like a waste of any points. FWP does some weird $&#@ with our resources. 🙃
