Montana Elk Winter Migration Report

Hey guys..i’m coming to hunt my first late season elk hunt this weekend in SW montana.. Dillon area..does anyone know if the elk have moved to lower elevations yet? I’ve heard there’s not a ton of snow from what I’ve been told.. Thanks again for any advice or pointers...I’ve learned so much from many of you on this forum!

There is definitely not a ton of snow. There is some snow, but I don’t think you’re going to find many elk at lower elevations yet.

Fairly slow as per the area biologist a few days ago...

There are not as many elk in the Madison Valley compared to this time last year. There’s been much less snow.

Get your hiking boots on - not much snow and the elk are squirrelly
