Missoulian letter to the editor. I think this lady has been watching too many Tim Tredwell flicks.

Wolves help elk herds flourish

We talk about peace and making this world a less violent place - now we want carnage to 75 percent of the Idaho wolf population, a species which has more of the right to live than humans do. Families shouldn't be afraid of this creature that has to fear the gun.

People have to physically make an elk habitat in Idaho, which shows that elk do not naturally belong in that region. Why kill that many wolves because there are not enough for the hunters? People can go to the grocery store to eat, wolves cannot. Elk and deer are their only source for food. Should we kill humans because of famine?

Wolves actually help the herds flourish. They kill the sick and injured animals and leave the healthy strong adults to grow and reproduce. What game do humans kill? Anything we see. The healthiest biggest animals die for our dinner.

Yes, wolves sometimes kill livestock, but do they have the consciousness to know your land borders from their own? Humans are the real intruders. Because wolves sparingly kill a cow, should we exterminate more than half of their species in an area? Are they killing for profit? A hundred head of cattle in a single year at one ranch? You and your children? No. There have been no reported cases of a healthy wolf killing a human. They are not blood thirsty marauders looking for death.

Let us overcome our xenophobia and learn from the wolves. Let us kill the sick elks instead and help the herd grow. Let us kill our sick thoughts and our own lives will also flourish.

Each animals we drive to extinction is one step closer to our own.
