THE PRICE OF FREEDOM IS GREAT,AND NEVER ENDING.......

I would like to kick off the review sections by adding my review of a new air mattress available at most retail outlets. Most hunters and campers rely on these as one of the basic necessities for outdoor camping.

For this review I will be reviewing the Max Super Air 3000 gas propelled air mattress. I picked up the review copy at K-Mart for $19.96. On first examination it appeared to be a well-constructed piece of outdoor equipment. It consists of a cover made of 2000 strength cordura, which looks like it should withstand the rigors of the outdoors. I cannot tell you what the inside is made of though because it came deflated and as there is no air in it you are unable see inside it. I tried to fill it up and then look inside it but it kept deflating before I could figure out what it was made of, so for now we will call it a mystery substance. The mattress comes attached to a forty horsepower motor that runs on diesel fuel, by my timing on the stopwatch it took four seconds to inflate the mattress. Well any camper can see the benefit of this, not only does it save time but it will also keep your hunting partners from having that worried look on their face as you blow into that little hole on the mattress, thus inviting comparisons to a two dollar hooker.

Now its on to the field-test, and this is where the product starts to show its weakness. My girlfriend and I took this out on a camping trip in the mountains that are frequented by a bunch of folks on the weekend. I normally do not like to camp in public campgrounds but I really wanted to get some feedback on the Max Super Air 3000. I showed it to many of the people on the campground and they were all impressed with the features and overall quality of the product, the one complaint they had was it was kind of noisy but once I hooked up my 2000 horsepower generator and big screen TV with a satellite they came to the conclusion that the bigger generator was definitely more of a problem.

Once the mattress was inflated (four seconds) my girlfriend decided to call it a night and hit the hay. Well we are all adults here and needless to say one thing led to another and we decided to give that ole mattress a “stress test” and this is where the product really showed its major flaws. The on/off switch on the mattress is located on the bottom by your feet. Well somehow, I’m not quite sure how, my foot hit the "on" switch. That ole diesel mattress inflator fires up and after about twenty seconds (I was in a certain situation and was not about to stop what I was doing to turn it off) we hit critical mass. Well that ole mattress just let go. The best description I can give would be to tie to lizards to a big balloon and then let it go. Well we shot right out the side of the tent, doing loops in the air and were flying all around that campground. Well words alone cannot describe the chaos that ensued. People were running all around the campground screaming in horror, kids were standing at the campfires, their jaws hanging open while there mothers scrambled to cover their eyes. I have never seen anything like this before, ya would think these people had never seen two naked people clinging for their lives to an out of control air mattess. Well on second thought I guess that’s not something that could be called common. Well we wound up landing on the forest rangers station and were promptly escorted off of the campground, I didn’t mind though as I can not see the big deal about a little mishap and as I stated earlier I really do not care for campgrounds anyways, just to many weirdoes doing oddball things.

Well my final conclusion is this product is really a piece of junk and you would be well advised to stay away from it, especially if you camp in an area that is frequented by a bunny hugger crowd that does not appreciate the humor in a simple mishap. In concluding I would have to say that you would be best in sticking with your conventional blow up variety mattress, even if your hunting partners compare you to a two dollar hooker.
