Map Reading ?

So this might be the dumbest question you guys have ever heard but I just got the huntinggpsmaps download and its awesome also have the mytopo map for my hunting unit in WY and the delorme atlas so all of the small roads that looks like arent paved or say road or alley/road how can a guy tell if those are public roads or private roads without actually being there to see them.

Sorry to sound stupid but this is one thing i havent learned along the way.

You can't be sure if they are public in those things. A lot of those Delorme gazetteers show roads that go into farms/ranches and they are private...especially during hunting season. Some roads are also not drawn in correctly and others don't exist.

You're going to need a better map to know for sure. You might be able to get some BLM, State Lands, or Fish and Game maps that show the public roads. Those are typically better than Delorme maps

Normally any road thats numbered is a county road, the others are just a guess.

I dont know of any map that is 100% reliable for telling road status.
