A-con- If the price of scrap metal increasing was not an integral part to the increased theft of copper...what do you feel is the reason for the increase in the amount of copper being stolen now compared to when the value of scrap metal was low? This isn't even a social issue and you can't figure that out. It's a simple case of economics. I learned this in the first year of economics and you're making it a statement about the liberal media. When the risk of getting caught is diminutized by the reward of not getting caught...you will see more theft. Gains vs. losses thats all. It isn't liberal/ conservative or a social issue at all. At the same time, increase the punishment for getting caught (raise the risk) and you will see less theft...Pretty simple really.
