During my last pheasant hunting trip we were talking about the difference in roosters tail feathers. Some people (including myself) have always judged a nice rooster by the length of the tail feathers. One of the other guys in our group always counts the number of rings.
Besides the size of the spurs and the length of the a certain wing feather. Does the counting of rings actually have any true comparison to a birds age or could you could call it trophy caliber?
My personal best was a younger bird that sported a impressive 24.5'' tail feather. Yet it only had 30 rings.
Does any one have any proof, ryhme, or reason to the whole counting rings theory?
