I'm wondering if the HT community could help me out. I'm a metallurgist and my area of expertise is failure analysis. I help folks understand why metal stuff breaks (and sometimes, what to do about it). I'm trying to build up some "case studies" to demonstrate to folks what it is I can help out with. Given my passion for hunting & the outdoors, I'm seeking some examples of metallurgical failures in the hunting & outdoor recreation industry. Knock on wood, I personally don't have too many examples.
Does anyone have any gear failures that they could share pictures & a story of? I figured this might be a pretty interesting thread. If anyone has some really good ones (bonus points if the failure is a complete mystery) I might offer to purchase the broken item & pay to ship it my way.. that might sound stupid to some folks..
