So, I was fortunate enough to draw the lucrative fall bear in unit 22. Surprisingly more difficult than I had thought. I have been all over Smith's mountain, cuprum, bear, cuddy mountain, and windy ridge. Seen a few sows with Cubs. Hiked over 45 miles this weekend and glassed for hours. Not much movement. And the only fresh sign I'm seeing is 3+ miles back into the canyons. Berries are abundant, water and cover are abundant, but I feel the 100 degree days are keeping the bear on lockdown. Also, I think all the pressure from the hound hunters are pushing the animals back. Plus, elk season just opened and everyone with a bow and a side x side is cruising the roads. I am all open for tips, opinions, and experience up her here.

Would it be better to wait for some cooler weather so the bears are trying to put on weight? I know there are some studs up here and I don't want to pull the trigger on a 1 or 2 year old bear. This will be my first bear, and I'm excited, but also not super picky. Just a mature bear is all I'm looking for.

ANY insight is appreciated. I hope everyone had a good labor day and is hitting the hills to fill the freezer.

Thank you. Went up Sied creek today. Saw a nice cinnamon bear. Only 2 years old or so, ears were still on top of the head. I have to head home in the am, but will be back again this weekend.
