Hey everyone I'm new to this forum just thought I would start by asking if anyone has drawn unit 40, 22, or 18 for deer. I'm interested in putting in for these units and was wondering what everyone thought of these hunts.

Little into about myself, I'm 22 from McCall Idaho been hunting my whole life. I mostly hunt around the McCall area for elk, deer and waterfowl. I also enjoy hunting North Idaho for whitetails. This last year I started hunting some other general units in Idaho with decent success. Just looking to broden my horizon and hunt some cool units in Idaho for now.

What units have you previously put in for? What units around McCall do you usually hunt?

Tis the season

Good hunts...lots of public, start putting in now at your age and you have a good chance of drawing...by the time your 40! Just kidding. Good luck.

I have put in for unit 18 the last two years. The primary reason for putting in for 40 and 22 is they are both late hunts. Elkmagnet I usually hunt 23 and 19a on the breaks of the Salmon. I have also hunted 22 before it switch to forken horn only and draw.

I spend a little time in 19a myself. You might be better off at the golf course in town.
It's really a trade off I would stick with 18 and hunt a little harder. 40,22 are better but not worth the odds IMO. Good luck

Have you tried putting in for controlled tags in 23 and 19A for the late hunt? I put in for 23 two years ago, I think the odds were 1:5...of course I didn't draw. Still better odds then 22 or 40 by far.
