Hunting New Areas

I will be hunting a new area in Colorado 3rd season that i may not get a chance to scout
Looking for recommendations from some of you veteran public land elk hunters on how to hunt a new area to increase my odds of encountering elk
I plan on leaving the roads and beaten paths and try to get as remote as one can on foot, and spending time glassing
