I have a question for all the veterans out there. I will be helping my cousin next week in the Badlands fill his tag. I hunted there in 2013 so I know the area where the elk "should" be. When I was out there I used my bugle to locate animals and worked well most bulls responded to my calls. I was surprised since I am a rookie at it.

I have read different articles some say don't call others say call. If I am using a cow call how long of a period should I be calling and how rapid of calls? As far as bugling if the bull keeps responding do I keep bugling back?

I am fairly confident we will be in good elk country I just don't want to scare away the elk with too much calling or not getting a chance at an elk with too little. I understand every elk will respond differently to calls I just wanted an idea of how you guys do it.

Lastly in October I will be helping my dad fill a cow tag in a unit I do not have experience in. How does one go about late or post rut calling?

Thanks Jamen
