After three mornings of five mile hikes, some sage grouse decided to cross the road in front of my truck while heading home. My first sage grouse, don't know if I'll buy a tag next year.

Grouse must be running across the road everywhere. I went bear hunting this weekend. While making some top ramen for lunch at the pickup truck, I saw this guy run across the road. Therefore I grabbed my shotgun and got some poultry for dinner.

It’s been a tough season so far so it felt good to get two spruce grouse and a ruffed with my GWP Ada this morning. Still haven’t seen a blue grouse yet this year though…

Fun today in a honey hole we’ve nicknamed “Grouselandia” with the bow. The pup was psyched!

I am. Missoula area. It’s the weirdest thing, I saw plenty of blues during spring bear and this summer when on training hikes with my dog. I’ve hit most of those areas this season, and no birds.

Took the dog out this morning trying to find a ruffed grouse. Covered 3.5 miles of mixed aspen with snowberries near water, focused on edges with conifers. Not a ruffed grouse to be seen- thought I would have stepped on one eventually. Definitely scratching my head.

Every time I go bear hunting I end up getting grouse

A quick 2.5 day trip to Maine, thick woods on opening weekend with the leaves still holding-on and brush was crunchy from being dry that there was no sneaking up on anything. Flushed 51 grouse and 5 woodcock across about 12 hours of boots on the ground hunting.
