It is actually pretty interesting that in alot of the developing world, cell phones are the first form of telecomunication that has been widely available. Compared to the infrastructure required for land line phones, cell towers are pretty cheap. Everytime I have been overseas, I have had a local cell phone for emergency use and contacting locals.
