Been trying to fill this pronghorn tag in NC MT. The goats are understandably skittish but I had three close encounters yesterday. Two of them with a dandy buck. First time i screwed up & let him go because i was dumb enough to not recognize escape behavior & plant and wait for him. Second stalk was much different he crossed 700 yards in front of the two track I was walking on. He had a single doe behind him. I watched as they went over the hill on some state ground. Quietly I slipped down the coulee, wind was right, everything felt good.

I popped up over the knoll they went down & they were just gone. 2 miles searching & glassing turned up nothing.

Today is a freezer day. First white butt I find & have an opportunity on gets a 165 grain Hornady interlock. I was going to hit the Front for cow elk, but am putting it off for another few days. I think I've been bitten by the pronghorn bug.

Good lord, there is nothing finer than fall in Montana.
