I was wondering, any thoughts on whether a person should have a plan like Garmin's SAR 100 Annul plan ($39.95). Or say something like a local life flight annual plan ($65) or possibly both?

We have both.

Pushing the button is insanely expensive without the Garmin plan. Starts at about $50k per

Blackhawks don’t come cheap! I was guiding a group right on the edge of Becharof National Wildlife refuge. Two adults and a gigantic pain in the ass 12 year old. Worst kid in 20 years of guiding. Fishing was off the charts. Two adults had hooked 100 silvers in the first few hours. Kid got bored, kept wandering off, I go fetch him, point out the bear tracks that kind of thing. Of course he knew it all. About mid afternoon Coast Guard Blackhawk does a low hover right out in front of us. We wave everyone smiles they wave and give a thumbs up. I give thumbs up, weird I’m thinking. As the Coasties slide up and back I hear our 206 approaching, he’s running it hard, splashes down and runs hard onto the beach. He’s two hours early for our pickup. WTF back and forth. Sick feeling in my gut, little bastard had found my Garmin on my pack and pushed the SOS button, a couple of times apparently. We didn’t get charged because they happened to be training right there anyway.
