Fur skinning with hoist

Here is a little demo on how I skin my racoons and coyotes with my hoist. After I get going for the year its not a problem to bang a coon out in a couple to 3 minutes from star to finish first pick is my setup.

then I get the animal started past the tail and loope the rope around the hide at the tail base

Holding up on nthe tail I run the hoist up at the same time to down past the shoulders and take the steel pull the legs through and cut off with the knife

I then hoist it again to the ears and slice them where the cartlidge meets the skull then to the eys and cut and finally to the nose and cut once more

Turn thehide back fur side out comb them down good and in the freezer.I dont mess around fleshing them or stretching I have a buyer that pays for them green.

Just incase anyone was curious from yesterdays trapping post I put up. I forgot the block on the floor is 2 bags of quickcrete and an I bolt.its over 100# and some of the cold coon and yotes will lift it off the ground but then it settles back to the floor within a few seconds. An eye bolt in the floor would be better but I just havnt put one in.

Question is; do you eat that coon meat or let it go to waste? They're some good eating when done right.

i use a set up kinda like that,except clamps.works really good on coon.do you use a knot or anything to keep the rope from sliding off?

All my carcasses go to a friends coyote bait piles. They dont last long with all the hawks and eagles and yotes.I have to pull the tail myself after that I just loop the rope without a knot.I have seen the clamp style skiners and am going to go that route when I have a more permant set up at my new house if I ever get one

Went to a meat plant in Wyoming that does the same thing with deer and antelope. Pretty slick.

My buddy Trapper Max in MO uses a similar system. The only difference is he built a square out of angle iron and welded the long jawed vise grips onto the side of the frame. He starts the hide around the rear legs, locks the hide into the vise grips and pushes the button. I was amazed at the amount of critters he could skin in a matter of minutes. Good luck on the rest of your season.
