Ill be in Northern CO chasing elk from 9/11 till end of archery. Full moon is going to be the 16th. Do you think it will be tough during the full moon? When do you think the rut will kick off good? Last year seems like it was a late rut. Thanks for any thoughts.

I've arrowed two bulls during full moons. I've found mid day hunting to be really good during those times. I wouldn't let it change my plans at all personally...just get out and hunt hard! Good luck on your hunt

I have seen elk out lounging in the middle of the day during full moon. They seem to move with the moon which usually starts in the early afternoon. Killed one elk this way before.

Both 2 years I've been archery hunting was the last week of archery season; last week of September. Both times, the rut was at the peak but this can change from year to year. I think you'll be there at the perfect time; you'll probably see the rut kick off (or it probably will have just kicked off before you get there) and more than likely leave when it's still going.
As for the full moon, I have yet to go on an elk hunt when it was a full moon but it looks like there's been some great advice here. I will be hunting October 15-19 this year and it will be a full moon then. Looking forward to the mid-day hunting after reading these comments. Good luck!

I will be hunting second OTC in Colo starting Oct 22 so this topic has my interest. I read here several people had excellent results midday during the time there was a full moon. This seems the opposite of what should be expected. If there is a full moon, then you would think the Elk (or deer) would be out all night feeding, and not have to come out in the day time. Why do you think there is more activity in the daytime when there is a full moon?
