Several sites around the Snowies that the FS already has cabins on could be great housing if families want to live pretty remote.
Work stations too for that matter.
They already have private leases for cabins why not build housing for workers?

My sister spent years in USFS housing in Alaska and Idaho. Seasonal and field personnel should have housing close to the SO or their reporting point. My only question is who will be in this housing.

If they are going to say that a GS-14/GS-15 or SES Forest Supervisor can't afford a house, I will throw the BS flag.

i dont work in gov, so i havent lost all common sense, but maybe NOT have offices in one of the most expensive zip codes in the country?

Someone from Wyoming should have a better realization of the difficulty in residing in the snowy, oft inaccessible backcountry where most USFS cabins are located. It's a tough trip through paradise to Walmart! Even fed workers have to eat.

The sites I'm talking about are along the highway, just get in and drive to town.
Many folks live very remotely in Wyoming, getting to the store twice a month maybe.
I understand well the challenges to living remotely, maybe you do not??
Where did I say backcountry cabins? Many of the leases around here have highway access as well.

Its been discussed ad nauseum to move the SO out of Jackson, not many alternatives and all are still expensive.

Sometimes you just have to suck it up, the work still needs to be done and providing housing is the only way it will work. That is, unless you're good with paying seasonal trail crews 300K a year.

According to AI , commercial property in Jackson is about $2millionan acre.

Freedom is $40k for land.

im no gov accountant, but how many prefab houses can you build by selking Jackson land? and......you dont have to develop a single public acre.?

Right, and you dont have to deal with the millions of the American public that go through Jackson on their way to Teton and YNP and utilize the BT enroute. That gateway alone makes total sense for the SO to be in Jackson. Not to mention the need for the BT to work with NPS, GF, etc.

I know let's move the SO to Cokeville...cheap land there and so efficient.

Damnest thing. The Wuhan flu came and tge FS somehow figured a way to not have to be in office, let alone in Jackson Hole. So... what other gov agencies shall we start pouring foundations for on pubic? And where shall we stop? Park City? Sun Valley? Tahoe?

This may shock you, but lots of folks deal with commutes, generally because where they can live, and where buisness is, arent the same neighborhood, FS isnt special.
