While deer hunting in SE Utah I spent some midday time fishing for trout in two small nearby lakes, and had fun using a light spinning rod throwing flies under a bubble. I was never a fly rod purist so any tool that works is ok in my book, and in some instances the spinning rod works great. One advantage is it works in tight spots, and you can cast that bubble a long ways. I was mostly fishing for stocker rainbows but I also caught a few Tiger trout (brown X brook hybrid) which are stocked as fingerlings, the biggest having grown to 14". Most of the rainbows were 10-12" but I got one at 15" that I guess was a holdover from 2025. The tiger trout and the larger rainbow had a very red flesh, I guess from living longer on a natural diet, they were delicious.
