Yellowstone officials kill wolf

10:16 PM MDT on Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Associated Press

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK -- Yellowstone National Park wildlife officials say they have killed a wolf that chased people on bicycles and motorcycles on several occasions.

The action taken Tuesday against the yearling male is the first time wildlife managers have been forced to kill a wolf since the animals were reintroduced in Yellowstone in 1995-1996.

Previous attempts to haze it away from park facilities were unsuccessful.

Wildlife managers said the wolf had lost its fear of people, showing up in the Old Faithful area frequently, and posed a safety risk to park visitors.

Officials said the wolf has probably been fed by people.

"Officials said the wolf has probably been fed by people"....ummmm....or the yearling male was seeking a territory of its own...or the yearling male was doing what comes naturally--HUNTING! Did the yearling male have "people food" in its tummy???

maybe its a good thing that they passed the law that allows carrying in national parks now?
