I have a set of Antlers I cut the Skull Cap from and now I want to mount it on a Plaque and do the old school leather covered plaque mount. Do I need to do anything to the skull cap besides rinse it really well before I mount it all up?

Picture is my first bull caribou sitting inside the ones I'll be mounting.

Wouldn't hurt to boil it some to help get any oils out of it. I have a few deer that I have done this same thing with and a couple of the first ones I did as a kid stained the buckskin I put over the skull cap. Either way, degrease it.

Hose it off good with pressure washer after removing hide. You can hit it with borax if you are still concerned. Leather is a bitch to work with. Hard to get all the wrinkles out. Buckskin is better if you're thinking that route. I might suggest pleated velvet. Check these out.20220511_142628.jpg20220308_095605.jpg20210423_210829.jpg
